Before I started my weight loss journey ,my body had gone through so much in the last few years and at some point I just couldn’t take care of me-I did everything I could to stay fit and healthy but no matter how many times I worked out or how little I ate, I kept piling on the kilos. My asthma got so bad, my back hurt and my ankles couldn’t support me making me sedentary most of the time and consequently gaining more weight. I had never been this heavy, I was 94kgs with a BMI of 30. I was not okay with. It affected my confidence hence my social life.
My Nairobi Bariatric experience
In November 2022, during one of my lowest moments, I walked into Nairobi bariatric Center at the heaviest I’ve ever been in my life. They advised me accordingly and held my hand throughout the journey
Life after Gastric Balloon
The intragastric balloon procedure which is what i did,is a non-invasive weight-loss procedure that involves placing a saline-filled silicone balloon in your stomach. This helps you lose weight by limiting how much you can eat and making you feel fuller faster (it’s not surgery).
This procedure is not a shortcut to weight-loss and it needs a lot of sacrifice and discipline in order for one to reach their goal. I personally started with psychotherapy because I had a very bad relationship with food. The team was so supportive i really loved how they were always on call taking care of me. Especially during the adaptation period that was not easy for me at all. I could belch all the time and had acidity. My greatest catastrophy was sipping water because trust me Maureen is not patient.
However I learnt that the biggest discpline is your subconcious relationship with food and the balloon should be treated as just a tool. I love that in 4 months I had already lost 22kgs and my curves which almost disappeared can now be seen. My energy levels are higher now more than ever- I feel 16 again! Thank you Nairobi Bariatric for giving me a second chance.
